GIStec GmbH, Darmstadt, and MediaSec Technologies GmbH with headquarters in Essen, have entered into a co-operation agreement regarding the commercialisation of the patented SysCoP technology for digital watermarks in the field of geographical information systems. MediaSec's watermarks form the basis of the new type of service for GIS applications provided by GIStec under www.geo-watermarking.de. This co-operation aims at the protection of geographical data in digital and analogue form. GIStec will complete its range of services with the products and solutions by MediaSec in the field of digital watermarks. Thus, for the first time, suppliers of geographical data will be able to guarantee the authenticity of their data in the Internet and to assert their copyrights. "Geographical data, such as satellite pictures, are very extensive in size and very cost-intensive with regard to their production. The distribution of these pictures, for example via the Internet, up to now was a high risk for the supplier", explains Dr. Eckhard Koch, manager of MediaSec GmbH. "Now the inseparable marking of these pictures by means of digital watermarks enables the supplier to integrate information into the picture according to his wishes and to prosecute possible infringements of these copyrights". Dr. Uwe Jasnoch, manager of GIStec agrees and emphasises: "Geographical information systems (GIS) and their productive use are subject to intensive changes. This alteration is accompanied by a corresponding change of requirements. Through the co-operation between GIStec and MediaSec we can meet the expanded demands of our customers and offer them innovative - and presently unique - services". GIStec GmbH and MediaSec Technologies GmbH are spin-off companies of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft für Graphische Datenverarbeitung (Fraunhofer-IGD). GIStec GmbH was founded in April 2001, and concentrates on the use of geo-scientific research results and their integration into a commercial range of products and services. This range extends from products and services regarding every aspect of meta-data and geo-data servers to the provision of application services regarding the topic of geographical information systems in the Internet. MediaSec Technologies was set up in 1996. It offers comprehensive
solutions in the field of security of multimedia data, documents
and applications. It is an essential objective for MediaSec to guarantee
the authenticity and integrity of multimedia contents and data in
digital as well as analogue form (e.g. on paper). MediaSec's products
and solutions are based on the patented technology of digital watermarks.
MediaSec is the world-wide leader in the field of watermark technology
and was awarded prizes of the German Federal Ministry for Education,
Science, Research and Technology and of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft.
