PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island --
December 12, 2000 - Spectra Science Corporation, a leading photonic
solutions company, today announced that it has exclusively licensed
MediaSec's digital watermarking technology and products for specific
applications in anticounterfeiting, anti-diversion, and forgery
protection.
MediaSec's proprietary and patented technology, jointly developed
with the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics, provides technology
and software for embedding and detecting digital watermarks in digital
content and their respective analog representations.
"In the world of software, there are several approaches to
protecting digital content. What Spectra Science offers is the distinct
advantage of integrating MediaSec's superior digital watermarking
technology with Spectra's physical security products to create a
double lock and key level of protection for both the physical media
and the digital image content supported by that media," said
Nabil Lawandy, Ph.D., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Spectra
Science. "Immediate opportunities for this powerful combination
are in banking, government documents, currency, negotiable instruments,
and e-commerce transactions."
"We are pleased to establish this relationship with Spectra
Science. Our SysCoP products offer many unique advantages over other
digital watermarking schemes by providing enhanced flexibility,
compatibility and portability across many more diverse media applications,"
said Jian Zhao, Ph.D. President and CEO of MediaSec Technologies
LLC in Providence, Rhode Island. "Our MediaSign technology
provides an innovative solution for authentication of documents,
across the digital and analog domain. With Spectra's leading position
in document security, I am confident that they will be able to offer
the best solution in the industry to these markets," added
by Dr. Eckhard Koch, the Managing Director of MediaSec Technologies
GmbH in Essen, Germany.
SysCoP digital watermarking technology is software that embeds
a perceptually invisible digital watermark into images of photos,
graphics, text and other types of digital media. The embedded information
can be used to protect the information content from unauthorized
use, copy and alteration. The technology also provides the unique
advantage of allowing a digital signature of a document to be represented
as a digital watermark contained within it and thereby making the
two inseparable across multiple media formats.
